2007 Founders Day Contributions Surpass $200K
The 2007 West Side Nut Club Founders Day was held at the Burdette Park's Discovery Lodge on Tuesday May 1st. Twenty Tri-State organizations were handed donations ranging from $2,000 - $32,000 and totaling more than $200,000. This was a Founders Day record and also put the total overall contribution mark at above $3 million. West Side schools received a total of $104,000. Vanderburgh County's CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) and Wish Upon a Star received $2,500 and $3,000 respectively.
Club President Mark Weinzapfel said "mainly, as you can see, schools and education, it's all on youth. CASA, it helps protect the youth and Wish Upon a Star. You look down the line, it's basically children."
Weinzapfel singled out the Holly's House ($18,613.15 for video equipment in the interview rooms) and the Howell Wetlands ($18,000) donations as especially important, because both will go a long way toward helping children. He said the board was shocked to learn how prevalent child molestation is in Vanderburgh County which Holly's House should help combat, and that no education building currently exists at the wetlands. "I think the kids that we're going to touch with those two programs, that's awfully rewarding," he said. "We're youth-oriented, because the kids are our future."
Ground was broken on the new Howell Wetlands Education Center Friday April 11. Many fine organizations and companies have donated time and money for this project. The West Side Nut Club is proud…
