After enduring two straight days of torrential rains, the weather front that stalled over the tri-state area and more notably, West Franklin Street finally departed the area letting the suns ray drench the 88th Annual Fall Festival.
An estimated crowd of 88,567 made their way to the festival throughout the day buying tickets for the rides and finally getting to the 125+ food booths to get something to satisfy the hunger while supporting the many non-profit organizations.
The day was kicked off by the Pet Parade sponsored by The Pet Food Center and Little Caesars pizza. The street was lined with cats, dogs, goats, and many other family pets.
In the evening the main parade, sponsored by Proliance Energy, featured over 98 different particiapants from Mater Dei and Reitz bands, roller girls, the Hadi Shrine Funsters, Halloween characters, and just about everything in between made its way down the street.
It appeared to be a very successful night for the food booths as many were closed, all sold out of food items, while the festival was still going on.
Sunday morning the members of the West Side Nut Club will converge on Franklin Street and the surrounding areas for one last time for final clean-up. The members of the West Side Nut Club take great pride in cleaning up after the thousands of festival patrons, and by mid afternoon on Sunday one will be able to drive down Franklin Street and past West Branch Library and not have any clue that just 24 hours before thousands and thousands of people were there. The members will go into local neighborhoods and clean up wrappers and trash that may have blown into the home owners property.
